EV Charger

(Mechanical Design & Development)

Our client approached us to work alongside their electronics design consultancy partners in order to provide design services on the mechanical design / assembly elements of a new innovate EV charger.

Initially that involved design of the enclosure and modelling the rest of the parts to assess assembly feasibility. As time went on the scope of that project grew to helping the client identify suitable low cost suppliers for propriety components that would be locally sourced to the sub contract assembly facility (which we also helped identify). The aim was to ensure all product testing from the very beginning could include production representative components and provide early validation of the complete system.

The project challenges included:

  • Provision of a low volume limited investment design solution that could be taken into production in a short time frame. This would enable additional funding for the business and an opportunity to enter the market and gain market feedback.
  • Provision of a higher volume design solution that could achieve scalable reductions in production costs and a more branded design.
  • Achieving relevant mechanical performance criteria to satisfy current and future European Directives for CE marking.
  • Provision of a higher volume design solution that could achieve scalable reductions in product cost.
