Bike Maintenance Stand

(Manufacture to customer drawings)

Our client approached us to help them source all the mechanical components, to fully assemble their new product in China and pack in retail presentation packing before shipping in bulk to the UK. The “The Bike Maintenance Stand” had been developed by a separate product design company who we know well and they recommended ADKO as a good potential manufacturing route.

When we spoke to the client we had no prototypes just 3D models and some 2D drawings. The project involved  sourcing over 50 mechanical parts including bespoke die castings, plastic moldings, rubber moldings, pressings, metal injection moldings, fabrications as well as several standard type components and fixings. One of the advantages of manufacturing in China is that bespoke production tooling is often 50% cheaper than in western European countries, so this made the customers upfront initial investment much less than would have been the case using UK suppliers. Also the unit product cost was far more cost effective than UK factories could support.

Another advantage of ADKO is we have an office in China with engineers able to visit the suppliers. During one of the early trial builds several assembly issues became apparent which required a design changes. We were able to discuss these with the UK product design company and quickly get modified drawings back out to the supplier supplier in China with minimal delays. Quick and effective communication avoids delays and costly mistakes.

In all the project took 6 months from our first meeting to going into volume production.
